Well, decision made, a journey around the globe it should be. But how and where to start? This question bugged me all the time while I was busy cutting the strings to my “normal” life in Munich. I wanna share some of the decision progress with you.
(Also this is a rough insight on how I plan my travels)
On finding the perfect starting point for me many factors had to be carefully measured. I would be so choky to call myself a well-traveled guy. It all started really early with my parents and the always same spot in Italy. But at least I got used to be away from home for at least twice or three times a year. Later on, in my teen years, I was active at a youth group from the German mountaineering club and spent all my school vacations away rock climbing at some of the best spots on our sunny planet. At the sweet age of 18 I then started as a teamer of a youth group of kids and again spent a lot of my time in the mountains and nature. Finally, at around 22 years-old, I got on an Interrail tour around Europe with 2 friends. Amazing experience. Since then I`ve often been to awesome places like Thailand, Sri Lanka or Indonesia. When I was not traveling I started to host a lot of people through Couchsurfing. I personally started it while I was on my Interrail month in Europe. But I carried it on and shared my home with round about 60 people!
So given the fact that I have friends on many awesome spots around the globe it was a given that I should visit some of them. I made myself a world map with pins on it for every Couchsurfer / friend I would like to visit. Also I put in some extra pins for cool spots I had heard of and I didn`t want to miss. Just a few days later there was this post of a canadian friend that made me smile and think of the good time we had while they were in Munich.
Hmmmm, Canada, friends, nature?! (Here you have to know that since I was 8 my dad keeps telling how awesome it is to go camping in Canada) So be it.
It turned out that there was a pretty good deal on a one-way flight from Munich to Canada! What a coincidence! 350€ later I hold the first ticket of probably more to come in the next year!
When I’m in Canada, I feel this is what the world should be like.
